As we embark on a new year, it's the perfect moment to look back and celebrate the incredible journey that was 2023 for Open Up. This past year has been filled with milestones, partnerships, and community impact that truly define the spirit of our organization. Through a thoughtful survey of our dedicated staff, we've identified the top ten highlights that showcase our commitment to inclusivity, well-being, and growth. Top Ten Highlights of 2023:
Growing Team: Our team expanded with the addition of 4 full-time and 5 part-time employees, enhancing our capacity to make a positive impact.
Community Engagement: Exciting partnerships with Fred Rogers Productions, WQED, and the University of Pittsburgh highlight our commitment to collaboration. We're honored as BikePGH's Community Partner of the Year and proud recipients of the Glass SLIP'r Award for accessibly opening wellness practices to the Deaf community. These connections enhance our outreach, aligning us with institutions dedicated to positive impact.
Senator in the Studio: Hosting Senator Bob Casey for a community roundtable brought valuable insights and meaningful dialogue within our studio walls.
Strategic Vision: The completion and launch of our 2023-2026 strategic plan set the course for the future, guiding our vision and mission.
Inclusive Education: Collaborating with Allegheny County, we successfully launched afterschool and summer programs focusing on students with disabilities.
Quality Time with Staff: The introduction of "Quarterly Quality Time" strengthened our team bond, with enjoyable activities like a visit to Phipps.
Empowering Families: The third series of movement classes in partnership with Down Syndrome Association, along with the launch of a dedicated caregiver yoga class, showcased our commitment to family engagement and joy. These initiatives further demonstrate Open Up's dedication to providing inclusive wellness opportunities that cater to the diverse needs of our community members.
Expanding Reach: Our class participants grew with the inclusion of community living facilities, community day programs, and housing shelters around the city, fostering a more inclusive community.
Enhanced Governance: The launch of our Board Committees marked a strategic move to share workload and boost communication, fostering a more collaborative and efficient organizational structure.
Virtual Wellness for All: We closed out the year reaching approximately 10,000 seniors with virtual inclusive yoga classes sponsored by AARP, offering a source of well-being to a diverse audience from all across the USA.
