Open Schools

Open Up is booking our 7th year of yoga in schools with our Open Schools program.

Our mission is to teach mindfulness tools through movement practices and interactive arts while centering people with disabilities. We want all people to have ease of access in finding avenues for increasing their overall sense of wellbeing. We believe that all people should be able to experience joy in community with others.

Our Open Schools programming has been running strong since 2017. We have been in over 30 schools and 200+ classrooms in the greater Pittsburgh area. We continue to grow and serve our community each year and are thrilled to add an after school program option that centers students living with disabilities.

Our curriculum is made up of accessible wellbeing practices that encourage self-discovery, connection, and joy. Gentle yoga, mindfulness, and improv games help students and staff feel grounded in their bodies and foster social-emotional learning.

Where:

On-site in your school district, approved private school, or education facility.

When: During school time or after school + professional development time for teachers.

Movement

Our movement practices include gentle yoga, creative movement, dancing, and stretching. We believe that movement helps to energize the body, calm the mind, and access how we are feeling and, in turn, aid in processing our emotions. Our skilled facilitators aim to meet individual physical, mental, and behavioral support needs while maintaining a team/group/community atmosphere.

Mindful Interaction Games

We will focus on group theater games, community storytelling, and interactive music expression that will provide opportunities for creativity, self-expression, team building, and social-skills building.

Mindfulness

We include mindfulness in all aspects of what we do. Throughout our sessions we will encourage students and staff to be present and check in with how they are feeling in the moment. We will teach breath practices and other tools for navigating stress and anxiety. We want participants to feel comfortable showing up just as they are.
